PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

EFFECTIVE PRESSURE PROFILE

It's time to replace "cuff width" with a measurement that matters, effective pressure profile. Understanding an effective pressure profile will help you translate the results from a study using one cuff type into results you can implement using your cuff type.

ROCKCUFF

The image on the right was produced using FujiFilm 5LW Prescale film placed between the RockCuff cuff and skin and then tightened to create a pressure profile. As can be seen, the pressure is evenly distributed across the entire width of the cuff.

PNEUMATIC

The image on the right was produced using FujiFilm 5LW Prescale film placed between the multi-chamber pneumatic cuff and then inflating to the suggested pressure of 185 mmHg. As can be seen, the pressure is not evenly distributed but instead centered in the middle of the cuff

DELPHI STUDY

The image on the right is from a study on cuff pressure produced by Delphi, a manufacturer of blood pressure cuffs and one BFR alternative. You can see from the graph that you need to overinflate the cuff to partially generate adequate pressure down the slope of the curve.

CUFF TYPES

The image on the right illustrates various cuff types and how their inflation type and materials affect the transference of pressure from the cuff to tissue.

The classifications are from the FDA, and the sub-categories are based on our testing. RockCuff is a semi-rigid nonpneumatic.
